Background

Most people are familiar with start templates in Creo. These are the PRTs, ASMs, and DRWs your organization uses to standardize the model creation process. These start templates have standard starting features (usually three coordinate systems with one intersecting coordinate system), parameters, relations, layers, layer states, orientations, and other metadata - such as combined states and simplified reps for ASMs. 


Start templates are very helpful for standardizing an organization's Creo models when users are creating a new model from scratch or are importing files, such a vendor STEPs. However, what happens when organizations have existing designs, such a legacy models and models in multi-CAD environments. Oftentimes, it will come down to the user having to manually add missing parameters, relations, layers, orientations, and other missing CAD metadata. This is often cumbersome to the user and expensive to the organization. Here at CadActive, we have a new way, which will automatically update non-compliant models and allow organizations to easily standardize the different types of models they have - Model Template Automation.

    • Parameter Profiles

    • Note Profiles


Process

We think of model template automation as three steps:

  1. Defining your company's standard models
    1. What start templates (if any) exist today that you can use?
    2. Finding all different PRT vs. ASM vs. DRW example "compliant" models
    3. Thinking holistically about what will be your model templates 
  2. Adding your organization's model template details, more information (here)
    1. Uploading existing start templates or "compliant" models 
    2. Creating global parameters, layers, etc. in the application
  3. Building out the model templates
    1. Combine the template details you have built out to create your model templates
  4. Updating non-compliant models!
