Spool Manager

What Spool Manager is for, and which Cabling commands actually create Creo spools from files.

Spool Manager is the Cabling ribbon command for importing and validating cabling spools. Command help: Import and Validate Cabling Spools.

You need a Cabling license. The ribbon command is registered, but it does not open a manager dialog today. To create live Creo spools (and bulk items) from files, use the two bulk-item commands instead. Organization spool records (name and description) live in the web app on Cabling Spools.

Which command to use

Job

Command

Create Creo spools from Creo spool files in a folder

Spool Bulk Items From Folder.spl files. Open a cabling assembly first.

Create Creo spools from a Creo Schematics catalog

Spool Bulk Items From Catalog.dt / .art / .mm. Open a cabling assembly first.

Maintain named spool records for the organization

Web app — Cabling → Spools.

Control bulk-item naming and Per Spool vs Per Cable

Settings for Cabling.

On Creo 12, the bulk-item commands also materialize native spool bulk parts in the assembly.

What a Creo spool needs

  • A unique spool name that matches the logical data (wire or cable spool name from the schematic or AutoCAD Electrical XML).

  • Parameters CadActive uses for bulk items and reports: part number (default parameter PART_NUMBER, backup SPOOL_PART_NUMBER) and description used in the common-name format.

  • Do not leave temporary or ignore spools in customer reports. Cable Locations skips the spool named CADACTIVE_TEMP_SPOOL, spools whose WIRE_TYPE is JUMPER_WIRE, and spools whose CADACTIVE_REPORTING is IGNORE.
