Copy Geometry

Copy published interfaces from a source assembly into a skeleton with Geometry Copier.

Copy Geometry is the Creo how-to for Geometry Copier: copy published interfaces from a source assembly into a skeleton as independent references. See Geometry Copier for what Copier is and is not. Source models must already have interfaces from Publish Geometry.

Open Geometry Copier

  1. Open the assembly that contains the equipment and the skeleton. It must be the active model.

  2. In the CadActive ribbon, Automate group, select Geometry Copier.

The dialog title is Geometry Copier - by CadActive. The command help is: Create copies of published interfaces in a desired model. You need an Automate license, a CadActive server session, and an active assembly.

The dialog is a dual tree. Left: source assembly (equipment). Right: skeleton to copy into. File → Close dismisses the dialog (same as Close in the footer). File → CadActive Dashboard opens the dashboard.

Select equipment and skeleton

  1. On the left, click the select button next to Select assembly and pick the source assembly to copy geometry from. If the pick is cancelled, Copier can use the current assembly.

  2. On the right, click the select button next to Select skeleton and pick the skeleton to copy into.

The skeleton must be modifiable (checked out / unlocked). If CadActive prompts you, unlock it before continuing. The skeleton also needs at least one coordinate system. If it has none, Copier asks:

The desired model needs to at least have one coordinate system in order for the application to work properly.
Would you like to create this coordinate system automatically?

Choose OK to create a default CSYS. Choose Cancel to stop — Copier cannot copy into a skeleton with no CSYS.

You cannot copy a skeleton into itself.

Update an out-of-date schema

After you select equipment, if any source models are behind the current CadActive publisher schema, Geometry Copier opens Update Schema for Models:

Select models to update to latest publisher schema.
If models arent updated they can't be copied using this tool.

{n} models found

Leave models checked to update them so Copier can copy their published interfaces. Unchecked models stay on the old schema and cannot be copied with this tool.

Copy published interfaces

The left tree lists components in the source assembly. Columns are Base Designation, Compound Designation, and ID Path (Creo’s assembly component path). Designations come from Designator; Copier does not set them. Use the cascade next to the assembly field for Expand All and Collapse All.

  1. Select one or more components (or categories) on the left.

  2. Right-click and choose a copy command:

    • Copy Component Placement — create a placement CSYS in the skeleton for that component, without copying published geometry yet. Help: Create a placement CSYS in the desired skeleton.

    • Copy Geometry — copy published datums and quilts, curve groups, surface groups, custom publish geometry, cabling segments and networks, and pipe solids. If the component has no placement CSYS yet, Copier creates one. Progress title: Copying Geometry from Components.

    • Copy Bodies — copy published solid bodies. Progress title: Copying Solid Bodies from Components.

    • Copy All Children — run Copy Geometry and Copy Bodies for every descendant of the selected component. Progress title: Copying All Published Items from Components.

Copied items appear on the right tree under the skeleton, with Compound Designation and ID Path.

note

Nothing is copied unless the source already has published geometry (or you add a user-defined copy). Publish the library model first with Publish Geometry.

User-defined copies

When you cannot write publish features on the source, copy geometry the Copier way without Publisher:

  1. Select a skeleton on the right.

  2. Open the cascade next to Select skeleton.

  3. Choose Copy User-Defined Geometry (points, axes, coordinate systems, datums, surfaces, quilt faces) or Copy User-Defined Solid Bodies.

  4. Select the items in the model, then complete the selection. Copier creates a placement CSYS if needed and copies those items into the skeleton.

Geometry that is not inside the selected source assembly is skipped.

Manage copies in the skeleton

Right-click items on the right tree:

Command

What it does

Uncopy Geom

Removes the selected copies from the skeleton. Copier asks: Warning: You are about to uncopy/delete {n} items from the skeleton. Are you sure you would like to continue? (title Are You Sure?). Progress title: Removing Geometry from Skeleton.

Re-Parent

Retargets the copied placement to a different parent assembly context. Available on part and assembly nodes.

Update Location

Updates the copied placement to the component’s current location in the source assembly. Requires the source assembly to be selected. Available on part and assembly nodes.
