Define Model Templates

Create and edit CadActive model templates in the web app: identity, parameter and note profiles, views, and apply instructions.

CAD admins maintain model templates in the CadActive web app: list, create, edit, copy, archive, and delete. Engineers consume them in Creo with Model Builder and Apply Model Templates. See Model Templates for what a template contains.

If you already have a compliant start model, seed CadActive from Creo first (Apply Model Template → Tools → Add Current To Database), then refine the template here. That is faster than typing every orientation and layer by hand.

Open Templates

  1. Sign in to the CadActive web app.

  2. In the left navigation, open Standardize.

  3. Under Model Details, select Templates.

The list shows each template’s name, CAD type, subtype, and start-model name. You can filter those columns, export the list to CSV, and toggle whether archived templates appear.

Create or edit identity

  1. Create a new template, or select the edit action on an existing row.

  2. Set Name. This is the CadActive name you pick in Creo (Desired Template / Model Template).

  3. Set Model Template Model Name — the Creo start-model name, 31 characters or fewer.

  4. Set CAD Model Type: Part, Assembly, or Drawing. Type is locked when you copy an existing template.

  5. Set the subtype that matches how you use the start model:

    1. Parts: Solid Part, Skeleton Part, Harness Part, Pipe Solid, Bulk Part, ECAD Board Part.

    2. Assemblies: Design, Skeleton, Harness, Pipeline, Interchange, ECAD Board.

    3. Drawings: Design Drawing.

  6. Save.

Attach profiles, relations, and views

Building blocks live in Standardize catalogs. The template points at them; it does not duplicate the catalog rows.

  1. Under Model Details, choose a Model Parameter Profile (and, except on drawings, an optional Component Parameter Profile).

  2. Choose a Note Profile.

  3. Enter Model Relations if the template should add Creo relations (one per line).

  4. Under Model Views, multi-select named items from the catalogs: Layers, Orientations, Sections, Combined States, Layer States, Appearance States; on assemblies also Simplified Reps, Explode States, and Style States. Drawings do not show these view pickers.

  5. Save.

Author Parameters and Parameter Profiles under Standardize → Model Metadata — see Parameter Management. Author notes and Note Profiles under Standardize → Model Details — see Note Management. Model Views (Layers, Orientations, and the rest) are documented in later Standardize topics. Create the catalog rows you need, then attach them here.

Apply instructions

Checkboxes on the template tell Creo what to do besides creating missing named items.

Instruction

Used today?

What it does

Copy Layers from Template

Yes

Copies layer definitions from the start model onto the target when you apply.

Delete Non-Standard Layers

Yes

Removes layers on the model that are not in the template.

Other “Delete Non-Standard …” checkboxes

Stored only

Saved on the template for orientations, sections, simplified reps, and states. Apply does not delete those extras today.

Auto-Run Model Check

Yes

None, Run Interactive, or Run Non-Graphical — optional ModelCHECK after apply. Completeness against the template, not design-quality checking.

Assembly templates can also store Create Skeleton. Drawing templates can store Copy Drawing with Model, Replace Solid in Drawing, and Create Drawing by Solid Combined States — use those only if your organization already relies on them; they are drawing-specific instructions, not a substitute for model-view catalogs.

Copy, archive, and delete

  • Copy creates a new template from an existing one so you can vary a site or subtype without starting from scratch. CAD type stays the same on a copy.

  • Archive hides the template from the normal Creo lists. Unarchive to bring it back.

  • Delete permanently removes the template. Confirm carefully — this cannot be undone.
