Install CadActive to a custom location

Move the CadActive Creo client or launcher out of LocalAppData and update cadactive.dat plus the Creo config.pro paths.

The default install location is %LocalAppData%\\CadActive. You can put the client (or the launcher) somewhere else — a custom folder, a shared drive, or an IT-managed path — as long as the paths inside cadactive.dat and your Creo config.pro match that location.

Download the zip first: Download the Creo client. Complete a normal unzip so you have a cadactive-creo folder (without the launcher) or a cadactive-launcher folder (with the launcher). Then move that folder.

The steps below use the launcher as the example. The same edits apply to cadactive-creo — use that folder name and its cadactive.dat instead.

Move the folder

  1. Move cadactive-launcher (or cadactive-creo) to the location you want. Example: a CadActive folder on the Desktop, or D:\\Apps\\CadActive\\cadactive-creo.

Unlock cadactive.dat

  1. Inside the moved folder, select cadactive.dat → right-click → Properties.

  2. At the bottom, clear Read-only, then Apply.

Creo will not pick up path edits if that file stays read-only.

Update EXEC_FILE and TEXT_DIR

  1. Open cadactive.dat in a text editor.

  2. Find EXEC_FILE and TEXT_DIR.

  3. Change both paths so they point at the new location of those items (the .dll / executable for EXEC_FILE, and the text directory for TEXT_DIR). Save and close.

Update the Creo config.pro file

  1. The creotkdat line in config.pro must point at the moved cadactive.dat.

Without the launcher:

With the launcher:

Restart Creo and confirm the CadActive tab appears.
